I am looking for a studio space to compose and record music, and to make videos with music in them.

About Me

Hi, I am a multi-instrumentalist who plays guitar, pan flute, percussion, saxophone, keys, harp, and more. I have also made hundreds of videos using Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve and my video equipment.

Working in the company of others instead of keeping oneself is akin to life with or without oxygen.

The goal is to be surrounded by capable people who add their magic to projects. Working relationships with producers, social media, and marketing people are needed. Camera operators could use my equipment. A videographer could use my DaVinci Resolve commercial license. A person with a truck is often helpful for moving equipment.

This website has hundreds of pages that I wrote; two sections are relevant for this introduction: audio, video, and music technology and my original music. I also post on Mike Slinn Music on Facebook.

In 1978 I purchased my first synth, an ARP 2600, so I could write an emulator in PDP-11 assembly language using a light pen and D/A and A/D converters. I have developed several music-related software projects/products since then. Ableton Live is the DAW for me these days.

I have an Electrical Engineering degree from Carleton University in Ottawa, and I have published extensively on various music- and software-related topics. I worked in the US federal courts for 25 years as a software expert witness before handing in my green card and moving back to Canada in 2020.

Because of my experience with the corporate world, I tend to gravitate towards commercial projects. That said, there is no greater joy than having an audience go crazy when playing live. They respond to subtlety just like any other quality instrument would.

Moving To Toronto

The purpose of my first visit to Toronto May 25-29 is firstly to find a studio to rent, then find a place to live nearby. Priorities!

Currently I live in Montreal, where I have been running the informal World Peace Musical Collective. All but one of the other members have recently left Montreal, vectoring off in completely different directions; now it is my turn. I plan to move from Montreal to Toronto gradually, over summer 2026.

I would be equally happy to share studio space with a compatible person/people, or to have my own space. Instead of a quiet place where no-one bothers me, I would prefer be somewhere where I can interact with others.

I have a lot of musical gear, video equipment and lighting, but I only use some of it for each project, so I also need 150 square feet of storage close to the studio, or have access to a studio large enough to securely and discreetly store the stuff I am not using.
