![]() 'Jedi' is a diesel auxiliary sloop, made of hand laid fiberglass, and the deck material is FRP, balsa core (sandwich construction). 'Jedi' has a 50 hp Perkins 4-108E four cylinder diesel motor with a 3 bladed MaxProp feathering propeller. There are two water tanks, totaling 100 gallons, and a Spectra Santa Cruz Monterey watermaker capable of creating 15 gallons of water per hour. I added a 25 gallon fiberglas holding tank in the aft head. There are two propane tanks in the stern lazarette for the galley stove, oven and the barbeque, and a Webasto 2010 forced water heater. The liferaft is a Plastimo 6 person E type canister. Product details are here. I bought a new set of sails, with asymmetrical spinnaker, in 2002. Sail dimensions are:
The boat sat in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, for the several years before I bought it, and a number of things need to be attended to. I motorsailed it up to Vancouver between mid-April and the end of June/97. It was quite eventful! Here are photos of the leg between Puerto Vallarta to San Diego. I moved to the San Francisco Bay area from Vancouver by sailing Jedi down the coast non-stop. Here are some photos of sailing around San Francisco Bay. Since then my wife and I sailed to Hawai'i and I then sailed Jedi back to B.C. In the ten years I've owned Jedi, I've replaced the lifelines and stanchions, rebuilt the forward inner hull, replaced the running and anchor lights with LEDs, completely stripped and rebuilt the engine, replaced a lot of the interior, added two removable 120 watt solar panels, installed a new Raymarine C-70 radar unit and a NMEA multiplexer, installed a new ICOM 706mkIIg ham radio and spent a lot of time bringing her up to tip-top condition. I've also added a ham radio (my call sign is KG6LDE), replaced the pulpit, added a complete set of new sails (with asymmetrical spinnaker), and replaced the anchor with a Spade, replaced the rudder and added a new DC panel for high-amperage loads.. Jedi was hauled out over the winter of 2005/06 at Canoe Cove in Sidney, B.C. (my favorite boatyard, which also houses my favorite fiberglass/rig shop, Blackline). I had them replace all the high current wiring, replace the two 8D batteries under the floorboards with four U2500 batteries under the aft bed, replace the Delco alternator with a 90 amp Balmar, replace most of the original fresh water hose with a larger diameter (the heads didn't work well, because water didn't flow easily), replace the bilge pump with a much bigger unit - again with larger tubing, increase the diameter of one of the through-hulls, replace the fridge compressor (again), replace the steering cable and pulleys, replace all the sheets and halyards, touch up the cast-iron keel where rust was starting to show through, rebuild all the winches and much more. ![]() |
